Working Chef/Kitchen Manager at Local Organic Restaurant (soon-to-be worker co-op!)

Position: Working Chef/Kitchen Manager
Organization: The Root Cellar Organic Cafe
Location: London, Ontario

In anticipation of our upcoming expansion, The Root Cellar Organic Cafe is hiring an executive chef to develop and execute menus, train and supervise kitchen staff, and oversee all kitchen administration. See below for more details and application instructions.

Education: Cooking School Diploma (recommended). Food Safety Training Certification (mandatory). Interest in sustainable local food systems & working closely with local organic producers a plus!

Experience: Minimum three years experience in kitchen management/executive chef position (mandatory).

Cuisine Specialties: Fresh healthy pub food. Casual lunch menu. Vegan options. All organic, focus on local seasonal cuisine.

Specific Skills: Develop and execute menus using local organic produce and meat. Create vegan dishes. Plan and direct all food prep and cooking activities. Manage food and labour costs. Create and manage portion control systems. Hire, train and supervise kitchen staff, and oversee daily activities. Create and manage inventory, ordering and waste tracking systems. Manage all kitchen administration. Work cooperatively with general coordinator & front of house coordinator.

Working Conditions: Fast-paced take-out focused lunch rush; casual sit-down dinner & pub-focused evenings.
