The proclamation by the United Nations General Assembly of 2012 as the International Year of Co-operatives is an acknowledgement of the fundamental role of co-operatives in promoting the socio-economic development of hundreds of millions of people worldwide, especially in times of economic crisis.  Co-ops weather tough economic times better than regular businesses, have a higher overall survival rate in terms of longevity, and give their members direct democratic control over their operations.

To launch the celebrations of IYC 2012, the International Labour Organization, the World Food Programme, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, and the Food and Agriculture Organization collaborated to produce this inspirational film. It never fails to bring a tear to a co-operator's eye.
