Libro Credit Union Awards Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario and Local Organic Food Co-ops Network a Partnership Grant to Build Capacity in the Southwest.Watch movie online The Transporter Refueled (2015)
Pie in hand, (blueberry and pecan-yum) Libro staff and member owners made a presentation to the two organizations on October 22 at the EFAO offices in Guelph. “Part of the Pie Day Road Show ” that saw 31 presentations throughout Southwestern Ontario, the symbolic piece of pie represented the project’s “share of prosperity”. “Libro expresses their community commitment through the Prosperity Fund”; an annual granting program developed to finance local organizations that are focused on growing prosperity in southwestern Ontario through three focus areas: Regional Economic Development, Money Smarts and Youth Leadership. Joan Brady, LOFC Network’s Communication and Event Coordinator attended on behalf of the Network, she shared that “As a long-time Credit Union member I have always appreciated the re-investment in communities, extending that support to the ecological and co-operative farming and food sector is timely and will contribute to a healthy diverse food system for Southwestern Ontario”.
The project, titled “Strengthening Farm Viability and Co-operative Market Development for Ecological Farmers in Southwestern Ontario” received a grant to support programing for 2016 and 2017. This project enables the development, viability and network of ecological farm businesses and co-operative market initiatives in Southwestern Ontario.
The Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario is an educational charity that works to support a vibrant community of ecological farmers through farmer-to-farmer education and knowledge sharing. The two organizations will work together to deliver trainings, with LOFC Network’s focus on marketing and working with retailers and distributors (co-ops, food hubs, etc.). The project supports an EFAO and LOFC Network Southwestern Regional Coordinator to organize the following in 2016 and 2017:
- 6-8 workshops and webinar series on production, marketing and business topics
- 6-8 tours highlighting best practices and innovations on farms and food/farming co-operatives
- 6-8 winter networking events
- 20-30 mentorship arrangements
