This past week, I've had the pleasure of spending time getting to know Andrew Alford as he accompanied me on visits to several Georgian Bay co-ops and start-ups. This week, he began his Southwestern Ontario bicycle journey, starting with Karma Co-op and the West End Food Co-op in Toronto, moving on to the Ontario Natural Food Co-op in Mississauga, and he will be on the road for the next two weeks. Here is his latest blog post!
I’ve had a short, but restful stay in my hometown of Pickering, ON since my train arrival from the East Coast. My next leg of the trip will start tomorrow and conclude at the end of August – just a short stint compared to my previous 2 1/2 month journey. I’m ready to check out and learn from a few more co-ops in Ontario. My main focus on this trip will be to visit grocery co-ops – stores that focus on building community while selling food products using a co-operative business structure.
Here is my visit list for my trip:
- Karma Co-op, Toronto
- West End Food Co-op, Toronto
- Ontario Natural Food Co-op, Mississauga
- Langford Conservancy, Brantford
- Your Local Market Co-op, Stratford
- The Local Community Food Centre, Stratford
- London Food Co-op, London
- On the Move Organics, London
- Windsor-Essex Food Co-op, Windsor
Feel free to toss any food co-op questions my way, I’d be happy to answer your questions. Thanks to everyone who has supported me along the way!
